SeniorFlow Moment – What Does Feeling Good Feel Like?

What does feeling good feel like? Good question. It’s probably different for everyone. But, I would suggest that the primary common denominator for most are a combination of feeling fit, pain free, no brain fog, easy to move, mental and physical “flow”, worry free, high energy, enthusiastic, centered, and other intangibles.

I think HIGH ENERGY and ENTHUSIASM FOR LIFE are the two most important. I think a positive and high energy mindset can make up for a lot of “ills” and moderately poor health. I think there is a “real” feeling of good health, and when we have it, we feel really good.

To me, personally, to feel good is (rephrasing the above slightly) to feel healthy, fit, energetic, positive and enthusiastic. I feel good both mentally and physically. The only person who can make that happen — is ME. The only person that can make that happen for you — is YOU. I feel good now, much better than most 85 year old men. I attribute that to physical movement (exercise), eating better than I used to, and cutting out alcohol. While there are the inevitable pains and other “hiccups” that come with age, I am essentially illness free, and intend to remain that way. I intend to keep moving my body as long as I am alive. I started all that at age 60. I’m glad I didn’t wait any longer.

I like this quote from the book, The Life We Are Given, by Michael Murphy and George Leonard, Founder and Past President  respectively of the Esalen Institute on the Big Sur coast of California, describing the results of their well regarded program,  Integral Transformational Practice:

“For most of us, there was this tingling, fully alive feeling that comes from good health in the broadest sense — the health of body, mind, heart and soul.” — The Life We Are Given

That’s a pretty darned good description of what it feels like to feel good! Ask yourself: What does it really mean to you to feel really good? Think carefully about your answer, and then go for it.
